GST Invoice Generator & Format for India

Prepare a domestic GST tax invoice draft with HSN/SAC, place of supply, discounts, CGST/SGST or UTGST, IGST, and cess. Print it or save it as a PDF after checking every detail.

This is a drafting tool. It does not validate legal place of supply, GST rate, invoice-number uniqueness, e-invoice IRN/QR code, or signature. Use it for standard domestic taxable supplies; special invoices need additional review.

1. Invoice details

2. Registered supplier

3. Recipient and delivery

4. Tax treatment

Place of supply may differ from the recipient’s billing or delivery state. Verify it under the applicable IGST rules. A local supply in a UT without legislature uses CGST + UTGST.

5. Items and taxes

Enter the verified HSN/SAC and GST rate for each item. A 0% rate is not a substitute for a bill of supply where the supply is exempt.

6. Payment and signatory

Live invoice preview

Only complete, valid drafts can be printed.

Draft prepared with Taxzentic. The supplier is responsible for verifying GST treatment and issuing the final invoice. This document does not contain an IRN or signed e-invoice QR code.

How to make a GST invoice draft

  1. Enter a financial-year-unique invoice number, issue date, and the registered supplier’s name, address, GSTIN, and state.
  2. Enter the buyer’s details. If the delivery address differs from billing, add it separately. Select the legal place of supply independently of the buyer’s state.
  3. Add each item’s description, HSN/SAC, quantity, unit price, discount, verified GST rate, and any applicable cess.
  4. Review the tax split, reverse-charge treatment, totals, and signature area. Print or save as PDF only after the draft shows no missing-field warnings.

How the GST calculation works

For each line, taxable value = quantity × unit price − line discount. GST and cess are calculated on that value and rounded to the nearest paise. The tool sums line-level amounts; it never silently rounds the final payable total to whole rupees.

If the supplier state and place of supply differ, it shows IGST. If they match, it splits GST into CGST and SGST, or CGST and UTGST for a Union Territory without a legislature. For example, a ₹1,000 taxable line at a verified 18% rate gives ₹180 GST: either ₹180 IGST, or ₹90 CGST plus ₹90 SGST/UTGST. The form cannot decide the correct place of supply or rate for you.

Check before issuing

Rule 46 requires particulars that vary with the recipient and transaction. Invoice numbering must be consecutive and unique for the financial year; this browser tool cannot compare earlier invoices. For an unregistered buyer with a taxable supply of ₹50,000 or more, check that name, billing and delivery address, and state/UT code are shown. If the supply is exempt or you use a composition scheme, the applicable document may be a bill of supply. Exports, SEZ supplies, special sectors, and e-invoicing require separate particulars or processes.

Businesses covered by e-invoicing must obtain an IRN and signed QR code through an authorised Invoice Registration Portal. This tool cannot issue them. Read our GST invoice format guide, or use the e-invoice eligibility checker, HSN/SAC lookup, GST rate finder, and credit/debit note generator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the GST invoice generator.

What details should a GST tax invoice include?

Rule 46 lists supplier and recipient details, a financial-year-unique invoice number and date, HSN/SAC, description, quantity and unit for goods, taxable value after discount, tax rate and amount, place of supply for inter-state transactions, reverse-charge status, and signature where applicable. Some transactions need more details.

Can an unregistered person issue a GST tax invoice?

No. A GST tax invoice that charges GST is issued by a registered supplier. This draft therefore asks for the supplier GSTIN. An unregistered supplier should not use it to collect GST.

How does the tool choose CGST/SGST, CGST/UTGST, or IGST?

It compares the supplier state or Union Territory with the place of supply that you select. The recipient billing state does not determine the tax split by itself. Confirm the legal place-of-supply rules for your transaction before issuing the invoice.

Is the buyer GSTIN compulsory?

Enter the buyer GSTIN when the recipient is registered. For an unregistered recipient, leave it blank and provide the buyer and delivery details. Additional particulars apply when an unregistered recipient has a taxable supply of ₹50,000 or more.

Why do I need an HSN or SAC code?

GST invoice rules call for the HSN code for goods or accounting code for services. The number of digits to report can depend on turnover and current notifications. Find the correct code and required length before issuing.

Can I use 0%, 12%, 28%, or another GST rate?

The rate field accepts a rate you enter; it does not classify the item. Check current CBIC rate notifications for the HSN/SAC and supply date. A 0% entry does not automatically make an exempt supply a tax invoice; exempt supplies may need a bill of supply.

Does this create a government e-invoice or an IRN?

No. This browser tool creates a printable draft only. If e-invoicing applies to your business and transaction, report the invoice to an authorised Invoice Registration Portal to obtain the IRN and signed QR code.

How are discounts and taxes calculated?

Each line uses quantity × unit price, subtracts the line discount, and calculates GST and any entered cess on that taxable value. Tax is rounded to paise per line. The grand total is not silently rounded to a whole rupee.

What happens when reverse charge is selected?

The preview marks reverse charge and shows calculated tax separately as payable by the recipient. The amount payable to the supplier excludes that tax. The tool does not determine whether reverse charge legally applies.

Can I print or save the invoice as a PDF?

Yes. Complete the required fields, select Print / Save PDF, and choose your browser’s PDF printer if available. Review the document and add the required signature or e-invoice particulars before issuing it.

Are my invoice details uploaded to Taxzentic?

The invoice editor and preview process your entered fields in this browser and do not submit those fields to a Taxzentic invoice database. The website may load other services as described in the Privacy Policy.
