MSME Classification Rules (Revised)
The Government of India revised the MSME classification criteria to a composite formula considering both Investment and Annual Turnover. The distinction between manufacturing and service sectors has been eliminated.

Are retail and wholesale traders eligible for MSME registration?
Yes, retail and wholesale traders are allowed to register on the Udyam portal. However, benefits for traders are currently restricted to Priority Sector Lending (PSL). They cannot claim MSME benefits related to delayed payments.
Do I need a GST number for Udyam Registration?
Yes, PAN and GSTIN linked to the same PAN are mandatory for Udyam Registration, except for exempted categories. The Udyam portal automatically pulls investment data from Income Tax returns and turnover data from GST returns.
